The curved shape these have is too short and places pressure on several of the damaged discs. With this back board he has been able to sit in any tall backed chair without placing strain on the damaged discs. The first one lasted 21 months until the plastic inside began to crack. Not bad for sitting in the car during summer heat, winter freezing and daily use. If you find that the upper curve on seats pushes your shoulder blades forward and you have middle to lower back pain after sitting in those seats, he highly recommends trying this alternative.
